Retire-At-Home Halton is proud to offer Fit Minds, a cognitive stimulation therapy program for patients who have dementia (e.g. Alzheimer’s disease). Your doctor has likely explained to you that as the disease progresses, you will experience changes in the five areas of cognition. What are areas of cognition? Cognition is how the brain works, and consists of a set of mental abilities that allow us to perform most of what we can do as humans. Areas of cognition are specific abilities that are needed so we can carry out tasks.  Learn more here. When you have a neurological disorder, these abilities need attention.  Our program can be tailored to your individual needs so that you maintain good levels of mental activity, which can help improve your quality of life. You may have noticed that you have trouble recalling events or the names of people, or perhaps you have reverted to using your mother tongue. The importance of cognitive therapy is to help maintain healthy brain activity so that you can continue to communicate with your friends and family, and feel like you have some control in your daily life.
